What is PADI Freediver?

The PADI Freediver Course is designed for anyone wanting to explore the underwater world on a single breath. Through theory, breathwork, pool training, and ocean diving, students learn the core foundations of safe and enjoyable freediving.

No prior freediving experience is required — just basic swimming ability, comfort in the water, and a willingness to learn.

What You’ll Learn

Learn how to calmly hold your breath and move efficiently underwater in a safe and supportive environment.

Equalisation & Depth

Develop the skills needed to safely freedive to depths of up to 16m under instructor supervision.

Safety & Rescue

Learn proper buddy procedures, risk awareness, and how to recognise and respond to freediving incidents.

Theory & Physiology

Understand the science behind breath-hold diving, including pressure, equalisation, and how your body adapts underwater.

Course Structure

Theory & Breathwork

Learn breathing techniques, relaxation methods, safety principles, and freediving theory.

Pool Training

Practice static breath holds, dynamic apnea, duck dives, safety drills, and efficient movement in confined water.

Ocean Sessions

Apply your skills in the ocean through line diving, rescue practice, and depth sessions in Tasmania’s marine environment.

Equipment & Support

Go Dive Tasmania can assist with:

  • Freediving equipment sales

  • Equipment rental
