Your Journey to Becoming a Diver

The Private PADI Open Water Course – Extended Experience consists of four key stages, giving you significantly more diving than a traditional Open Water course.

Depending on your schedule, these may be completed over consecutive days, weekends or entirely around your availability.

Step 1 – Knowledge Development

Complete your dive theory online before entering the water using PADI eLearning.

Study whenever it suits you using your computer, tablet or smartphone while working through interactive videos, knowledge reviews and quizzes at your own pace.

You'll learn about:

  • Dive equipment
  • Safe diving practices
  • Dive planning
  • Underwater physics and physiology
  • Marine conservation
  • Diving procedures

Complete your theory before your practical sessions begin so you're ready to get straight into the water.

Step 2 – Pool Training

Take your first breaths underwater in the comfort of a heated indoor pool.

During your private pool session, your dedicated instructor will teach you all of the essential scuba skills you'll use throughout your diving journey while building confidence in a relaxed and controlled environment.

Because it's a private course, your instructor can spend extra time on anything you'd like additional practice with before heading into open water.

No previous scuba experience is required—just bring your enthusiasm and we'll guide you every step of the way.

Step 3 – Open Water Training Dives

This is where your adventure really begins.

Travel to the spectacular Tasman Peninsula and complete:

  • 2 Shore Training Dives
  • 2 Boat Training Dives

You'll put everything you've learned into practice while exploring reefs, giant kelp forests and Tasmania's incredible marine life.

Completing both shore and boat dives gives you a broader range of experience than many entry-level courses provide, preparing you for future diving adventures anywhere in the world.

Step 4 – Extended Experience Day

Now that you're certified, it's time to simply enjoy diving.

Spend another full day with your instructor exploring more of Tasmania's spectacular coastline while completing:

  • 2 Guided Boat Dives
  • More bottom time
  • More marine life encounters
  • More experience diving from boats
  • Continued one-on-one coaching

There are no assessments.

No skill circuits.

Just incredible diving, continued coaching and the opportunity to gain real-world experience alongside your instructor.

Many divers tell us this extra day becomes their favourite part of the entire course.

          • Go Dive Tasmania reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, modify or relocate any activity due to weather, sea conditions, safety concerns, instructor availability, vessel availability, minimum participant numbers, operational requirements, or any other circumstance beyond our reasonable control.

          2. Course Booking Conditions

          Eligibility

          • Minimum age is 12 years unless otherwise specified.
          • Bubble Maker and Seal Team programs have separate minimum age requirements.
          • Participants are responsible for arranging their own transport between locations, including the dive shop, pool, accommodation and dive sites.
          • Entry fees, permits and National Parks passes are not included unless specifically stated.

          Medical & Swim Requirements

          • All participants must complete the applicable diver medical questionnaire.
          • Participants aged 45 years or older must provide a dive medical certificate from a doctor prior to participating, regardless of their answers on the medical questionnaire.
          • If indicated by the medical questionnaire, participants under 45 years of age may also be required to obtain medical clearance prior to participating.
          • Participants must be able to swim 200 metres continuously and float unassisted for 10 minutes.
          • Swim assessments are conducted to ensure participant safety.
          • Failure to successfully complete the swim assessment or float assessment will result in removal from the course without refund.
          • Participants wishing to continue at a later date will be required to pay the applicable $245 rebooking fee.
          • Deliberately misrepresenting swimming ability, water confidence, or comfort in the water places participants, instructors and staff at risk and may result in immediate removal from the course without refund.
          • Go Dive Tasmania instructors and staff have a responsibility to provide a safe training environment for all participants. Decisions regarding participant safety are final.

          Deposits, Payments & Refunds

          • A non-refundable deposit of $245 per participant applies to all course bookings.
          • Cancellations more than 30 days before the course commencement date will receive a refund of monies paid less the $245 deposit.
          • Cancellations within 30 days of the course commencement date are not eligible for a refund.
          • If a participant is unable to participate due to a failed dive medical and provides supporting documentation, a refund may be issued less the $245 deposit, provided notification is received more than 14 days prior to the course commencement date.
          • No refunds will be provided for medical reasons within 14 days of the course commencement date.
          • Course bookings may be transferred to another participant for a $245 transfer fee, provided the transfer is requested before the course commencement date and the replacement participant meets all course requirements.

          • Go Dive Tasmania reserves the right to refuse a transfer request where certification processing has commenced, the transfer cannot reasonably be accommodated, or course requirements cannot be met by the replacement participant.
          • Refunds will be returned to the original payment method where possible.

          Combo Course Bookings

          • Where a participant withdraws from a multi-person package, any refund will be calculated based on the difference between the original package price and the applicable revised package price, less any non-refundable deposits.
          • No refunds are available for cancellations within 14 days of commencement.

          • Participants who do not attend, arrive excessively late, fail to complete the course, voluntarily withdraw, fail the swim assessment, fail the float assessment, or fail to complete the required online learning may rebook once within 12 months by paying a $245 rebooking fee.
          • After a rebooking has been used, any further continuation or rebooking may require payment of the full course fee.
          • Participants arriving more than 30 minutes late may be treated as a no-show at Go Dive Tasmania's discretion.

          Extended Experience Courses

          • The PADI Open Water Extended Experience includes additional guided diving beyond the requirements of a standard Open Water Course.
          • If a participant requires a rebooking due to cancellation, non-attendance, or incomplete course completion, the standard $245 rebooking fee applies.
          • Rebooked participants will be transferred to a standard Open Water Course to complete any remaining training requirements.
          • The additional guided diving included in the Extended Experience format is forfeited and is not included as part of the rebooking fee.
          • As a courtesy, participants who originally booked an Extended Experience Course and subsequently rebook may receive 50% off one scheduled Go Dive Tasmania boat dive within 12 months of course completion. This offer is non-transferable, subject to availability, and has no cash value.
          • Participants who originally booked a standard Open Water Course cannot use a rebooking, continuation, transfer, or upgrade request to move into an Extended Experience Course. Any applicable upgrade fee must be paid before the course commencement date.
